Princess Zelda

Happy Halloween! Lina chose to dress-up this Halloween as Princess Zelda from The Legend of Zelda Nintendo video games. Below are photos of Zelda & Link:

Below are photos of Lina's final trick-or-treating (houses in West Midwood, Brooklyn):

Photos taken at Coney Island to celebrate (few days prior)...enjoying the boardwalk:

Deno's rides (like the ferris wheel)...

And she won little prizes at the arcade...

& delicious lunch at IHOP.  I had yummy pumpkin pancakes & (kids menu was Addams Family themed) Lina ate Wednesday's Web-Cakes & Morticia's Haunted Hot Chocolate:

Lina enjoyed playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, on her Nintendo 2DS, and that is why she wanted to be Princess Zelda this Halloween, but our awesome Zelda-themed day included going to Game Stop so we could purchase The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

Lina made a drawing of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask that now hangs over her digital piano, which she still practices 5x per week.

We hope everyone had a Happy Halloween and will have a terrific Thanksgiving & Merry Christmas. Busy time ahead for us...I will post on the blog in the new year...we are looking forward to ringing in 2020 in a couple of months, new adventures coming up.

1st handball game at Kolbert Playground

They renovated this playground 1 1/2 years ago...so there is a cool mini track now (she loved riding her 3-wheel scooter on it) and big kid swings (added to the toddler swings), lovely new little kid climbing/slide area, more benches and new basketball courts.

(Sadly, they must have run out of money for the renovation and did not put in new bathrooms, so yucky.)

Kolbert playground (in Midwood Brooklyn) is the playground I went to when I was a teenager to play NYC handball for the first time (I played handball 13-19 years old and competitive paddle-ball mid-teens to early twenties). So, it was fitting that Lina had her 1st handball game ever at a court on this playground. I decided to teach 11 1/2 year old Lina how to play handball to improve hand-eye coordination (also, it's great for muscle strength & agility). Since she just needs to carry a little blue ball for the game, she can play singles or doubles with other kids when we commute to other parks.

She is enjoying the new sport and also the new musical instrument. After only 1 month of learning how to play acoustic guitar, she plays "Greensleeves" and Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" on guitar now, as well as original rock music, so cool! We are looking forward to Halloween...she picked a terrific costume based on a video game she likes, will post a pic of her costume soon.

Amusement Park All to Ourselves!

We didn't expect such a wonderful gift after living in (and commuting in) such a crowded city for the last decade (with so little personal space and LONG wait-time on most lines)...an amusement park all to ourselves!

We went back to the neighborhood that I grew up in Midtown Manhattan...and walked to my childhood playground (Heckscher Playground), seeing pretty horses along the way...

She was glad to wear her new denim skort (from Hanna Andersson)...and was happy to be back in her fav Japanese sneakers (Tsukihoshi brand).

We had Victorian Gardens all to ourselves. She rode mild/moderate thrill rides she enjoys as many times as she wanted to go on them.

She won a purple stuffed creature with a unicorn horn and rainbow mane.

We enjoyed climbing the rocks in Central Park, as well...

Lina stood in front of the building I lived in for almost a decade when I was a kid...it's directly across from Carnegie Hall.

She had a terrific start to 6th grade this month...learning pre-algebra, writing essays, reading lots of fiction, learning new animal facts, continuing to learn Japanese and beginning to learn how to play an acoustic guitar. We are overjoyed that it is now autumn...crisp, cool weather to come...and we are already excited for Halloween.
