Hope your holidays are jolly days!

She opened gifts early from her maternal grandma and uncle. Loving the Pikachu Talking Plush (which she sleeps with now), Nintendo 2DS (her first real handheld gaming system), Pok√©mon Alpha Sapphire video game (she wanted it for months and it has lived up to her great expectations) and super warm Bearpaw boots.

Finally told her there is no Santa Claus (and therefore Santa's workshop is not working on making the elusive Hatchimal for her and we're not playing into the price gouging by resellers and have quit the search)...thankfully she took it well! (And I don't have to wait on a 1-2 hour line to see a guy in a Santa Costume this year or pay for overpriced photos, yay!) Also, I told her there is no tooth fairy (might as well admit to everything at once). Fresh start in 2017 with the big kid who wants total honesty and she will be in the middle of her childhood by spring, so she deserves to know the truth (she is now calling me Saint Nicholas, ha...and she wanted to see all the baby teeth I have collected). I will save the final letter she wrote to Santa:

I bought her the Yo-kai Watch video game, which she enjoys immensely on the Nintendo, and a Kawaii (cute/adorable in Japanese popular culture) figure with green eyes (like Lina) and purple (her fav color) hair...

and Lina gave me this thank you note for the toy:

NYU Children's Chorus Holiday Concert 2016

Lina's 2nd time performing at the annual New York University Children's Chorus Holiday Concert. She is at the top row of the choral riser, since she's tall. This is the last semester she will be a member of the Novice Chorus (ages 6-8). They had a lovely concert Tuesday evening! Professor Carol Beadle once again did an amazing job organizing, teaching & conducting the chorus. (Click on an image to see larger view.)

Lina (far right) walking off the stage...enjoyed learning, practicing and singing the songs.

Happy Halloween 2016!

Happy Halloween! Photos of my 8 year old rainbow fairy...

And the VERY popular (she received a ton of compliments!) rainbow UNICORN:

Yes, mama also enjoys Halloween :-)

Autumn 2016 is Awesome

Lina has three afterschool classes for Fall 2016, and we are enjoying the long walks to/from these classes since the weather is finally cooler, yay. (I paid for one class, thankfully Lina got a full scholarship for another class and one class is free for all.) Lina always looks forward to wellness visits with docs...and it was time to see her dentist, here's a photo of Lina (with sparkling teeth) right after the dental cleaning:

And photos during our Manhattan field trips, including seeing the "Mission to Space" exhibition at the Children's Museum of the Arts...

Insta-friend at the Beach

Labor Day is fast approaching (2 weeks) & Lina's #1 summer fun is hitting the beach.

She lucked out in finding a sweet girl (German tourist!), same age (8), to make friends with instantly and they played in the water together. The insta-friend didn't have swimming lessons yet (Lina took a few at a pool this summer and will take more lessons late spring/early summer 2017) so Lina showed her how to put her mouth in the ocean and blow bubbles. The German mom used her smartphone to help them translate words (like "sea creature" & "fairies") and the girl taught Lina some German words (like blau=blue). They gestured to one another to show each other things like favorite colors.

Watching seagulls and listening to the waves crashing onto the relaxing.

Post-Visit to Eye MD

Photo below (Downtown Manhattan): Lina wearing temporary sunglasses that she was given at eye doc office. When rolled-up, this can fit into an old 35mm film I explained what camera film was vs. digital now. Lina had a visit with a pediatric ophthalmologist for a routine eye exam and was told she does not need to wear eyeglasses (yet) and her eyes are healthy and normal. To protect her eyes, after eye drops were used to dilate pupils, she wore these roll-up sunglasses outside and was a bit embarrassed that people were staring at her, but said I could post this on our blog. :-)

Air-conditioning a must during NYC heat waves

We had visitors this weekend. Lina enjoyed playing strategy board games & didn't break a sweat thanks to a/c. Can't wait for the coolness of autumn! Been a hot+humid July.

Superhero Beginner Swimmer

Having a blast learning how to swim...her first lessons ever...putting her face underwater, holding her breath for 50 seconds, blowing bubbles out of her mouth & nose, flutter kicks, floating, scooping arms...this summer is pretty awesome for Lina!

A few still frames from a video clip for swim lesson #4:
