31st Annual Medieval Festival in Fort Tryon Park
Living history events are fun and educational for kids and adults! Leading up to this event, Lina and I read Knights and Castles: A Nonfiction Companion to Magic Tree House #2. On Sunday we attended The Medieval Festival at Fort Tryon Park (northern
Manhattan) near The Cloisters, a museum of medieval art. The gorgeous natural scenery surrounded us...
and the Middle Ages were brought to life with a medieval market town. Thankfully, Lina liked the food at the event (she ate a chicken & veggie kebab + fried dough with powdered sugar). The only thing she dreaded...and this was anticipated...was using a porta potty (ick).
Lina was dressed as a knight.
Lina and her friend J enjoyed watching a joust between knights on horseback,
petting a horse,
seeing people dressed up in costumes, looking at the decorations,
listening to musical instruments being played live (a dulcimer and a harp below),
getting sprinkled with flower glitter,
watching a fire juggler,
and trying on various metal helmets.
