Sleeping Beauty - LC's 1st ballet

LC enjoyed a great introduction to ballet...and it was age-appropriate for a child who is almost 4 years old. We watched the New York Theatre Ballet performing Sleeping Beauty at Florence Gould Hall for an hour. Lovely costumes. Pre-show, a demonstrated lesson about balletic mime (how dancers convey the story with some gestures). The kids in the audience stood up and practiced mimed gestures and then kept their eyes open for those clues during the actual performance. At the show, I bought a $5 ballerina figurine for LC...and she wanted to see "Rose" sit on her beloved stuffed duck when we got home:

We went to brunch at a favorite spot, then to French Activities en Famille at FIAF. The kids made a popsicle stick puppet of the lead character (Little Red Riding Hood) after watching the puppet show by the company Goat on a Boat.

It was nice to be back in my old neighborhood, where I lived 4 1/2 years ago.

She still has the popsicle stick puppet (a hand with a face on it) that they made pre-show at the New Victory Theater's charming Hands-Up! production we saw in January (by the Zoem! New Dutch Theater).

For 1 year, I have been bringing LC to at least 1 puppet show, 1 live music concert and 1 live theater performance (dance, musical, improv comedy, play etc.) every month. She is quite attentive and sits quietly enjoying the shows and looks forward to each new performance...and asks me questions afterwards.
